The Council of Europe’s newly established expert committee on the integrity of online information held its first time meeting on the 15th and 16th March, to discuss its goals and plans. The MSI-INF will prepare a draft guidance note on “countering the spread of online mis- and disinformation through fact-checking and platform design solutions in a human rights compliant manner”.

On 29 March 2022, at 14:30 – 16:00 (CET), João Pedro Quintais, Ronan Fahy and Naomi Appelman, will be speaking at a TILT seminar on “Using Terms and Conditions to apply Fundamental Rights to Content Moderation: Is Article 12 DSA a Paper Tiger?”. The discussion will centre on Article 12 DSA, which may require platforms to apply EU fundamental rights law and to what extent this may curb the power of Big Tech over online speech.

Ronan Fahy appointed to the Council of Europe’s expert committee on the Integrity of Online Information

The Council of Europe’s newly established expert committee is composed of 13 members—seven Member State representatives and six independent experts⁠. Its mandate is to provide guidance “on countering the spread of online mis- and disinformation through fact-checking and platform design solutions in a human rights compliant manner”.
